Having long abandoned his Greek roots, Kratos tried and ultimately failed at having a quiet life in the Norse realms. Following the events of God of War (2018), Ragnarök shows that the nine realms have been plunged into a harsh winter, Fimbulwinter. While the original has played with the lore some, does this hold true for the sequel?
Fimbulwinter Lore - God of War Ragnarök
Fimbulwinter is the prelude to the end of the world, Ragnarök. Meaning "great winter" is a mythical series of three winters with constant, harsh snow storms and lacking any other seasons in between. In God of War, this event is brought on by the death of Baldur at the hands of Kratos and Atreus.
Fimbulwinter has made an impact across the nine realms without getting into spoilers. Fierce snows accompanied by equally ferocious winds scour the lands as Kratos and Atreus must now traverse via dog sled. The Midgard Lake is now entirely frozen over and provides new means of exploration. It sets the stage wonderfully and paints a picture in stark contrast to the once lush and verdant forest that Atreus enjoyed as a youth. It would seem that things are going to get much worse before they get better.
