Cooking in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can definitely make the difference in a life-or-death scenario. You can use it not restore your health or stamina, protect yourself from the heat or cold, even make yourself glow. What makes cooking in Tears of the Kingdom even more convenient are Portable Pots, Zonai Devices that you can store in your inventory, take out at any time, and cook a meal. Here's how to get them.
Where to find Portable Pots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
As they are Zonai Devices, Portable Pots can be obtained by placing Zonai Charges or Construct Horns into the bowl at the foot of the Zonai Device Dispensers, a clever nod to Gacha mechanics. Depending on what and how many items you place in the bowl, a certain number of Zonai capsules containing devices will pop out. I noticed that I received more capsule for Charges than Construct Horns.
You won't have to spend money on these Gacha machines, but they do randomly generate the items you can receive. To see exactly what devices (like the Portable Pot or a Wing Glider) a Device Dispenser will produce, scroll your cursor over the green icon marking it's location on the map. You should see a list of all available devices from that particular Device Dispenser.
How to use Portable Pots in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
The major benefit of Portable Pots is that they are, well, portable. From the Main Game Screen, if you press + to access your inventory, then use the R Trigger to scroll to Zonai Devices, you should be able to select one using A.
Be aware, once you have selected to use a Zonai Device, it can not be placed back into your inventory. Make sure that you really intend to use it if you select it. Also keep in mind that you can only cook one dish from a Portable Pot, so make it count!
As long as you are standing on a flat surface, the Portable Pot should appear in front of you, wherever you are standing in the world, with a pre-lit fire. Cook food like you would at any other pot, by opening your inventory using +, selecting hold on up to five pieces of edible items, then pressing B to return to the game. You should notice that Link will be holding the ingredients you selected. Stand over the pot and press A to cook a meal out of your ingredients.
