Final Fantasy XVI looks and feels like it’s going to kill your PS5 with all that graphical performance. If your room starts to feel like an oven, then the game could be overheating your console. An overheating console usually shuts down and/or restarts to regulate temperature, which is definitely not something you want to happen mid-game. Here’s how to fix it.
How to fix FF16 overheating your PS5
There are a couple of things you can do to stop FF16 from overheating your PS5. Below are a couple of quick solutions to try first:
- Switch your Game Performance to Frame Rate (in settings). Graphics can be taxing for your console. Besides, the game looks better in Frame Rate mode.
- Turn on your AC. Your PS5 works overtime to keep Final Fantasy XVI running, causing it to heat up. You can prevent it from overheating by making sure that your room is nice and cold.

If your PS5 still overheats even after the solutions above, there’s only one answer left: clean its fan. If you’ve never opened your PS5 since you bought it, then its fan has probably accumulated a lot of dust. Fortunately, this is easy to clean. The PS5 plates are removable without screws.
Once the places are off, use a Torx Security T8 (or T9) to remove the screws on the fan cover and gently disconnect it so you can remove all the dust. Trust me, there will be a lot. It'll look like gray cotton.
Since your PS5 is open anyway, gently clean its vents (the holes on top) with a toothbrush or something similar. Clogged vents can also cause your console to overheat.
All of this is perfectly safe to do, by the way, and I myself have done it many times over the years. You’re not going to see any wires sans the fan’s—and you SHOULDN’T be touching those with your pliers. Just that white rectangle they’re attached to.
