Final Fantasy XVI is the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series and one I've been looking forward to for quite some time. I love the stories in the Final Fantasy series, but I also appreciate the gameplay. However, sometimes difficulty can make it hard to enjoy the narrative in Final Fantasy games. This may leave you wondering about the different difficulties in FFXVI.
Story Mode vs. Action Mode - FFXVI
Other than the unlockable Final Fantasy mode, FFXVI has two main difficulty settings. These are Story mode and Action mode, or easy and normal mode, respectively. Both are fine ways to play the game but offer different experiences. Here is the difference between Story and Action mode.
What is Story Mode in FFXIV?
Story mode can be described as easy mode. Players are given a set of accessories that make the game easier, which are automatically equipped in this game. The Timely Accessories will allow you to chain combos together with the single push of a button, slow down time to make dodging easier, and more. This mode allows you to enjoy FFXVI's story without worrying about mastering combat.
What is Action Mode in FFXVI?
Action mode is normal or the intended way to play FFXVI. While you still have the Timely Accessories, you do not have to use them. This mode will give you a blend of combat and story. This is the standard difficulty and will provide a balanced experience.
What difficulty should I choose in FFXVI?
Ultimately, this is up to you. While story mode will make the game easier, I found action mode easy enough to play without becoming frustrated. You may experience difficulty spikes as you play, but I recommend playing in action mode before jumping straight into story mode. That said, you can change the difficulty at any time in FFXVI.
How to change difficulty in FFXVI
Changing difficulty is different in FFXVI. You can either change the difficulty as a whole from action to story, or you can equip Timely Accessories to customize your difficulty. Here is how to adjust the difficulty in FFXVI.
- Difficulty Slider
- Open the menu.
- Navigate to the System menu.
- Scroll to Game Settings.
- Toggle Action focused or Story focused.
- Timely Accessories
- Open the menu.
- Navigate to the Gear & Eikons menu
- Go to the accessories area.
- Equip the desired Timely Accessories.
