Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel Build Guide – Best Stats and Subclass

Lae'zel build!

Lae'zel is a Githyanki Fighter in Baldur's Gate 3 available as an origin character as well as a companion. Using Lae'zel as an origin character is great for melee-focused builds, as her Fighter class can learn many different melee techniques and feats that mesh well together. To create a good build for Lae'zel, you'll want to focus on the Battle Master subclass and take feats that improve her abilities as a fighter.

When first creating your Lae'zel origin character, the only choices you will have to make are your ability scores and your fighting style.

  • Strength: 17
  • Dexterity: 13
  • Constitution: 15
  • Intelligence: 10
  • Wisdom: 12

Lae'zel's fighting style depends on what weapons and armor you will want to use. A great option for Lae'zel's build is a one-handed weapon and shield, with either the fighting style Defense, Dueling, or Protection.

Fighting StyleDescription
DefenseWhile you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
DuelingWhen you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
ProtectionWhen a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Lae'zel normally has the Great Weapon Fighting style, which can also be a strong option, but keep in mind you should seek out good two-handed or versatile weapons.

At level 3, you can choose three maneuvers to learn within the Battle Master subclass. Many of these attacks are very helpful in different situations. Here are the best maneuvers to choose:

ManeuverDescription
RiposteWhen a hostile creature misses you with a melee attack, expend a superiority die to retaliate with a powerful strike that deals an additional 1d8 damage
Disarming StrikeSpend a superiority die to make an attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage and possibly forces the target to drop their weapon
Pushing AttackSpend a superiority die to make an attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage and possibly pushes the target back 15 ft.
Menacing AttackSpend a superiority die to make an attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage and possibly Frightens the target

All of these maneuvers can be used in different situations and will impact the flow of combat; Riposte can punish creatures that may not be able to reach your AC on attacks very well; Menacing Attack and Pushing Attack can create some space between you and the target in case you are overwhelmed or need to move, and The Disarming Strike makes powerful enemies with weapons lose an action having to pick up their weapon.
