After some experimenting, I've figured out what weapon you should choose when you first start Lies of P. Here's everything you need to know.
Lies of P Best Beginning Weapon
The Rapier (Path of the Bastard) is the best weapon to start with in Lies of P. It features a fast and fluid combat style, allowing you to strike quickly and dance away from enemy attacks. It relies on Technique, which also affects your use of the saber, and Advanced, which affects your elemental attacks. Selecting this style early on lets you focus all your offensive skills and maintain synergy.
Can you switch styles in Lies of P?
Fortunately, you are not stuck with your first weapon choice in Lies of P, as you can switch this throughout the game. There is no wrong choice when picking a weapon style in Lies of P, as all are viable. Your preference for play style should determine which you select at the start, but you can change weapons and experiment with what suits you best. I especially recommend trying out new weapons once you learn the basics of combat.

Should I choose the Path of the Cricket? - Lies of P
The Path of the Cricket equips you with the saber, a balanced weapon. It combines agility and strength, though not excelling in either like the other paths. Choosing the saber will help teach you blocking, dodging, and striking equally, whereas the other styles focus on one defensive option.
Should I choose the Path of the Bastard? - Lies of P
The Path of the Bastard uses the rapier and focuses heavily on agility. Your attacks are quick, and you can strike while quickly dancing backward. It is the weakest of all the weapons and relies on dodging over blocking.
Should I choose the Path of the Sweeper? - Lies of P
The Path of the Sweeper is powerful but very slow. It has the most damage, with each attack having a fairly long wind-up. You'll want to focus on blocking with this class due to its strong Guard Regain stat.
