Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth keeps evolving the formula that made Final Fantasy 7 Remake such a beloved title. Let us see all the new and returning mechanics in FF7 Rebirth.
All new and returning mechanics in FF7 Rebirth guide
The story in FF7 Rebirth continues where the Remake left, at the moment when Cloud and his company escape Midgar. The trailer hints at many surprising new elements, both story and gameplay-wise. New characters, gameplay mechanics, and even new timelines will be introduced in FF7 Rebirth.
Gameplay mechanics in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
A new crafting system that allows you to create items from resources you find worldwide is called Item Transmuter. You can craft items like Potions, Elixirs, and such. Some new items are introduced, like Mist Potion, which cures the whole team. There is also double Materia, which will unlock two elements at once, like Fire and Ice Materia. Individual Materia will still exist, though.
Among the new Materia introduced in the FF7 Rebirth is Auto-Cast, which makes characters cast spells even without being prompted to. You also have Auto Materia for unique abilities and weapons. FF7 Rebirth also allows for preset parties, saving you a lot of time when configuring the best party for the occasion.
The most significant innovation in the combat gameplay is the Synergy Ability. It works similarly to Limit Breaks and allows characters to perform team attacks. Expect some attractive scenes in which our heroes work together against enemy units.

Locations in FF7 Rebirth
Although we don't know the checklist of available locations in the game, trailers and official information from developers confirmed some of them. We will finally be able to travel outside of Midgar and visit some legendary places from the old FF7, such as Junon, Nibelheim, Costa del Sol, Corel Prison, Temple of the Ancients, and, to anyone's delight, Golden Saucer casino.
Characters in FF7 Rebirth
For the first time, we will be able to control Red XIII. Some new characters will be introduced too, and all from the previous game will be present. For example, Yuffie is now a team member, and we noticed Cait Sith, too.
World and Timelines in FF7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be an open-world game; the world will be vast, with many familiar places to visit. According to the trailer, you can finally ride Chocobos in FF7 Rebirth and even equip them with riding gear. However, the most exciting feature of Rebirth is the existence of multiple timelines. At the end of the Remake, Fate is defeated, and the characters are freed from their determined futures. There may be at least one more alternate timeline in which Zack survived.
