Leave Eltisweiss and follow the road east, north, and west until you see Fort Xialuke to your north (see the map above).  Head into the fort (you can recruit Yusuke on the way through). When you move right through the fort you’ll find yourself in Grum County-North.

Move through the area and enter Arenside, which you’ll recognize as the village you started the game in. Move back to the hut you started the game in, which is in the northwest corner of the village, and then head south and across the river (this path was blacked when you were here earlier).

On the other side, by the river, you’ll see an NPC with a fishing rod. Speak to him and he’ll give you his old Bamboo Rod.

Once you have the rod (you don’t need to equip it), you can fish at any fishing spot (they all look the same). Simply approach the place, enter, and you’ll automatically start fishing (press back to stop at any time). When you see an exclamation point above yourself, click enter to reel in the catch.

Once you've discovered a fishing spot it will appear on your map permanently but only once you've fished there. Fish provide both fish and food which you'll need once you set up your town.
