Apex’s new legend, Alter, is adding a multiverse twist to the game’s lore

Apex Legend's Upheaval is going to introduce a brand new Legend to the roster: Alter. A Void Breacher who has been traveling inter-dimensionally, she has been living the lives of personalities fans may be familiar with (more on this shortly).

While EA is yet to give out the exact active and passive abilities of this new Legend, there's a lot to her back story that's already adding to the game's lore. Moreover, this may be the first time the game is pushing its boundaries with the concept of a full-fledged multiverse.

Here's everything you should know about Alter

Alter's real name is YingLing Lui. At her core, she is a Void Breacher. Just like Wraith, she has the ability to traverse across dimensions, having a new sense of reality every time she does so. Her Void tech allows her to keep track of these memories, using it against those she despises.

Alter's sense of morality is often ambiguous, as she barely keeps track of how things unfold once she has left a dimension. This will lead to an interesting turn of events considering how Legends like Horizon and Wraith already have their share of problems across different timelines and dimensions.

Even though it hasn't been revealed how she interacts with other characters in the game, it's highly likely that Bloodhound and other older Legends will have something to do with her. After all, the new season's trailer showcases something similar.

How will Alter change the Apex Games?

The Apex Games are home to some of the most blunt and troubled personalities in Respawn's universe. Every Legend has a purpose to serve, Alter being no different. It's yet to be known why she's here, but one thing's clear: she doesn't care much about consequences. This can prove deadly in the arena.

The Apex Games have mixed up different maps over the seasons, including new maps like Broken Moon in its rotation. Upheaval, like other seasons, will introduce new aspects to the game, including certain map changes that players can expect to see in the official cinematics and patch notes. Alter's nonchalant and chaotic personality is bound to run rampant, influencing a shift in the power structure of the Apex games.

The new season's in-game comics and gameplay trailers will likely reveal more about her purpose in the Apex Games. Until then, fans can compare her presence with Wraith's, building up fan theories about what we can expect.

Furthermore, the new seasons will also bring a ton of new cosmetics, like heirlooms and mythics. These items may cost a lot of real money to buy, so it's best to save up those Apex Coins.
