Evo Shields, or Evo Armor as they are sometimes called, are the main type of gear used to protect yourself in Apex Legends’ Battle Royale mode. The quality setting them apart from the Body Shields used in Arenas, or the Level 4 Legendary Body Shield, is that you can level them up to make them stronger.
You start a match with Level 1 Evo Shield (white) and can also find Level 2 (blue) and Level 3 (purple) on the ground. There is no Level 4 Evo Shield, and to get Level 5 Evo Shield (red), you must level it up yourself or find one someone else has leveled up, usually in a death box. So that said, how does one upgrade Evo Armor on their own? There are three major ways to do it.
Dealing damage to enemy players
Every damage dealt with non-ally players will award you 1 Evo Point. This means if you deal 100 damage to an enemy, you will gain 100 Evo Points. However, this damage does have to be dealt by an opponent’s actual health or armor. Dealing damage to things like Gibraltar’s Gun Shield passive will not yield any Evo Points.
Dealing damage to Wildlife
Every 4 damage dealt to Wildlife will award you 1 Evo Point. This means if you deal 100 damage to a Prowler, you will gain 25 Evo Points. If you deal an amount of damage not divisible by four, the points received will be rounded down, as you cannot receive a partial point.
Buying upgrades from the Replicator
There is also a third way to upgrade your Evo Shield, which doesn’t require any type of combat. For 50 Crafting Materials, you can buy 150 Evo Points for your Evo Shield at a Replicator. It will take time to craft, and you will be shield-less during that time, but it will also fully heal your Evo Shield if it is damaged.
All three of these methods only affect Evo Shields Level 1, 2, and 3. Once you reach Level 5, you can no longer use any of these methods unless you swap your Evo Shield and start again.
Evo Armor Point Thresholds

Level 1 Common (white) | 150 |
Level 2 Rare (blue) | 300 |
Level 3 Epic (purple) | 750 |
Level 5 Heirloom (red) | N/A |
