Do Alpha dinosaurs exist in ARK Survival Ascended?
About three hours into my ASA playthrough, I had the honor of coming face-to-face with an Alpha Raptor I thought was normal and tried to tame. Sadly, I lost my freshly tamed Trike to it and died more times than I care to admit. Even so, I did eventually manage to kill the thing by standing on a rock and stabbing it for about five minutes with a Spear. They exist, and they seem to come out of nowhere just like in Ark Survival Evolved.
How to find Alpha dinosaurs in ARK Survival Ascended
If you're crazy and want to hunt an Alpha down, know you have your work cut out for you. Typically, Alphas can be encountered randomly inland or in large mountainous regions. As such, if you stay on the shore, you probably won't encounter one. However, this isn't a universal truth as they can wander anywhere they please if given the incentive.

You can tell a dinosaur is an Alpha in two different ways. The most obvious method is if the dinosaur has Alpha in its name. However, this way only works if you get close to it, which you really don't want to do. The safer way is to look for a red glow emitting from the dinosaur's body. Typically, this can be seen from a distance, as the red glow seriously stands out against most backdrops.
How to kill Alpha dinosaurs in ARK Survival Ascended
If you manage to locate an Alpha and want to kill it, steel yourself because they are the most powerful dinosaurs in the entire game. Most normal dinosaurs have an Alpha variant and said variant derives its power from the base dinosaur's stats (e.g. an Alpha Raptor is very dangerous because it's a steroid Raptor, but it doesn't remotely compare to the destructive might of an Alpha T-Rex).
Either way, you're going to need a lot of powerful tamed dinosaurs, a lot of leveled-up players, or, more practically, both, if you're looking to bring one of these beasts down. Use explosives, guns, and anything else lethal you can throw at it. I strongly advise against hunting Alpha dinosaurs alone, because you likely won't have the firepower to take one down yourself (especially early on).
You must also consider the location of where you decide to engage an Alpha Dinosaur. Facing it too close to your base means it could start attacking your buildings and killing your tames; if that happens and your base is not very well defended, expect the total annihilation of it. Alphas, like normal dinosaurs, will not stop attacking until everything you own is dead or in ruins; they have massive health pools so do not make this fatal mistake. If you attack an Alpha, be prepared to lure it somewhere far from your valuables.
Should you manage to kill an Alpha, know they reward a massive amount of experience and some of the best materials you can get in ASA.
