Call of Duty servers aren't usually the most stable and can present a ton of error codes from time to time, even during ranked matches. In this guide, I'll show you how to fix the 'you have been disconnected from the Call of Duty servers' error.
How to fix Call of Duty Server Disconnected error
Restart the game
The first and usually suggested fix for the Server Disconnected error in Call of Duty is to simply restart your game. I recommend you restart Battle.net or Steam as well so your profile is tagged as "logged out" in the servers.
If you're on a console, follow the steps below:
- For PlayStation users
- Press the PS Button on your controller.
- Hover to the Switcher app next to the Home icon.
- In the Active tab, select Call of Duty using your Options button.
- Select Close Game, and relaunch it through your Home Screen.
- For XBOX users
- Press the XBOX button on your controller.
- Once the XBOX menu pops up, highlight Call of Duty.
- Press the start button on your controller, and select quit.
- Relaunch Call of Duty from the XBOX Home Screen.
Check your internet connection
Another troubleshooting step is to check your internet connection. Sometimes, ISP connections randomly restart or shut down. Check your router and ensure that you're not experiencing any L.O.S. (i.e. Loss of Signal).
I had a persisting issue for months with my ISP not connecting to the Call of Duty servers, even though I was able to browse, and watch videos without any hitch. I bypassed this problem by connecting to a VPN service, and I was able to play the game normally with this method.
Check the Call of Duty server status
If you randomly got booted out of the Call of Duty, you can also check the server status of the game. The official website allows you to know if the game servers are down or under maintenance, which is an aspect that players overlook while playing the game.
You can also check the official Activision Support on X (formerly known as Twitter) for updates like upcoming maintenance so you can plan your play session ahead of time.
Check if your account is banned on Call of Duty Servers
The Server Disconnected error can also occur when your account is banned. Bans can come in different forms, like shadow bans, temp bans, and perma bans. Check your account through the Appeal a Ban webpage of Activision to see your account status.
Simply log in through the webpage, and you'll see your account status. If your account has a green checkmark, you don't have any existing bans, and the Server Disconnected error must have another culprit. On the other hand, if it has a question mark, you're most likely shadowbanned.
