How to grow and upgrade Plants and Corals in Crab God

Growing Plants and Corals on each level in Crab God is one of your Crablings' fundamental tasks, as they're the key to acquiring food that will allow you to progress deeper into the ocean. As soon as the stage begins, you should assign at least two Gardener roles set out to grow a diverse variety of Plants and Corals in each designated green block space (as seen below).

The more Plants and Corals you sow into the sands, sea creatures of all kinds will start to appear and establish a population. While "living" there, the creatures will feast on what you've grown, which will then produce pieces of Food that your Scavenger Crablings can collect and place in the Temple of the Tide's stockpile.

The more creatures you attract, the more Food you will produce at a consistent pace, which is especially important on deeper levels where the Food requirement gets steeper. To ensure that you establish as many different creatures as possible, you need to grow as many different Plants and Corals as you can, which means maximizing the green spaces that you're given to use.

Thankfully, there's a neat trick to increasing the number of a certain Plant or Coral without compromising space, and that is to upgrade your existing ones. Provided you have the Favour available (see our guide for how to farm it quickly), have your Gardener Crablings upgrade your aquatic crops to Level 2 (as many as possible). Each time you upgrade a Plant or Coral, its number will increase by one. In other words, a Level 2 Sea Anemone counts as two of them.

As you reach the deeper levels of Crab God and need more food and thus more sea creatures to migrate in to help produce it, you'll need to be able to upgrade your Plants and Corals even further. While you can upgrade any existing one to Level 2 by default, there is something you'll need to do to be able to increase that upgrade to Level 3.

On each stage, you'll notice there are Ritual Stones, which must first be cleansed by a Worshipper Crabling. Once done, you'll need to complete the tasks requested by the Ritual Stone in order to activate it, which usually involves providing it a certain amount of Food or Favour or establishing certain sea creatures on the stage.

Once you've fulfilled those tasks, you can activate the Ritual Stone and one of the first Blessings it will offer is the 'Revelation of Upgrading' (seen above), which allows you to upgrade Plants and Corals to Level 3. Select this, and it will be a permanent buff for the remainder of that run. Once you have that, your Gardener Crablings can upgrade any and all Plants and Corals to Level 3, as long as you have enough Favour available.
