Best Ranked Classes in Dark and Darker

S-Tier

Bard

Bard is a fun class but hard to master. They are fairly fragile, and successfully mastering their abilities requires proper timing. This can be hard to achieve when in the middle of combat. That said, they have great versatility and can play many roles, which becomes powerful when playing in a group. Bards are also great at controlling the tide of battle if left alone by enemies.

Cleric

The Cleric is a must for parties, especially if you head into deeper levels. Their ability to heal, provide support, and fight makes them one of the most versatile classes. With many of the enemies being Undead, their abilities become even more useful when facing off against mobs. They aren't as powerful magically as Wizards or physically as Fighters and Barbarians, but they successfully combine the two roles.

Wizard

Wizards are the ultimate spellcasters of Dark and Darker. They can take out single units or use AoE spells to clear groups. While their spells are slow to cast, they can be extremely deadly once unleashed. They require protection, but if given time to get off their spells, they can easily turn the tide of battle in your party's favor.

A-Tier

Druid

Druid is a great choice if you wish to play as a tank/support, thanks to its Shapeshift ability to turn into a bear. This class is very versatile, as each shapeshift gives different characteristics (try the chicken!). Let's not forget that you can also heal, buff, and debuff as a Druid.

Ranger

The Ranger excels at ranged combat but can somewhat hold their own in a melee fight, depending on the build you choose. You shouldn't engage in a melee fight, but you do have the ability to face a Fighter in battle. They also have various traps at their disposal and a healing ability that can be powerful in the right situations. Overall, you should keep ample space between you and your opponents and retreat when they get close, but with precision, you can put enemies down before they get close.

Fighter

The Fighter is often described as bland and master of none, but they are one of the most reliable classes due to their versatility. Their shield provides great defense, especially when paired with parrying. They can use melee and ranged weapons, allowing them to fight on both fronts. They also have a wide range of skills that can be used in different situations. Despite this, they do many things, but none of them are done as well as other classes' single focuses.

B-Tier

Barbarian

While Barbarians are naturally stronger and more durable than Fighters, they suffer in other areas that hold them back. Their lack of speed and ranged options means that Rangers and Wizards can run away and attack them from afar. However, with the right build, they can be extremely deadly and durable, which lets them suffer damage until they can get in close.

Rogue

Rogues are melee classes, but they are not at the frontlines. Rather, they wait until the right moment to strike, typically when an enemy has their back turned and isn't looking. They also excel at quietly and stealthily prowling dungeons and can hide at a moment's notice. They are extremely frail, so you should avoid combat when possible. Another perk is their ability to pick locks, open chests, and detect traps quickly.

C-Tier

Warlock

The Warlock is the latest class and likely the most untested. This means it is hard to give it a real spot on this list, but at first glance, they seem to be in a similar position to Bard. They apply debuffs that allow your allies to inflict greater damage or take advantage of weaknesses. With the ability to cast spells and engage in combat, they have a role that seems suited for an evil version of Cleric and Bard combined.
