The survival horror remake Dead Space arrived on PC and console at the start of 2023. Players take control of an engineer on a repair ship sent to check out a huge mining spaceship, where things take a darkly sinister turn. On the surface, the scary AAA title seems ripe for modding but unlike when the 2008 original arrived, there has been hardly any noise from the modding community. So, will there be any Dead Space remake mods?
Does the Dead Space remake have mods?
At the time of writing, there are no mods for the Dead Space remake, and it doesn’t look likely there will be many, if any, along soon. The main reason for this is due to it being built with the Frostbite engine. While games such as Star Wars Battlefront and Mass Effect Andromeda, also built on Frostbite, do have mods, they tend to be purely texture or model alterations. And they’re much slower to come down the pipe. This is because Frostbite does not openly support mods.
To make matters worse, Frostbite is well known for its complexity. When you add this to the lack of support for modding, it is understandable most in the community will stick to more favorable systems which support mods, such as the popular Unreal Engine. So, for now, mods for the Dead space remake are looking highly unlikely unless Frostbite developers DICE or Dead Space developers MOTIVE take a sharp U-turn on their position regarding modding.
