In Diablo 4 Season 4, being Hellmarked is actually a blessing in disguise rather than the curse the name implies. If you're looking to earn a bounty on your head for Hell's greatest evils, here's how you can.
What is Hellmarked in Diablo 4?
You might be wondering why I called being Hellmarked a blessing. Well, if you're strong enough, being Hellmarked means considerably more Hellspawn for you to slaughter. Killing Hellspawn in a Helltide means you earn Aberrent Cinders much more quickly, which can be used to open Tortured Gifts for some valuable rewards. It also means you earn Helltide resources faster. Bosses and Elites will spawn much more frequently, giving you more chances to earn powerful loot.
How to earn a Hellmark in Diablo 4 Season 4
To get yourself Hellmarked, you first need to make your way to any active Helltide in Sanctuary. In Season 4, Helltides appear the same as they always have (a big red outline on your map), so you should have no issues finding one on your map. Once you're inside a Helltide, massacre Hell's forces with such wanton destruction that they begin to fear you. Conduct enough hellspawn murder, and you'll see a red bar at the top right of your screen begin to fill up.
This bar represents how much killing you need to do to earn the Hellmarked status. Once it is filled, you'll receive a damning message that you've been Hellmarked. It will take some time to fill the bar, but you'll also know you're marked when you've got a glowing red aura.
When you're Hellmarked, Hell itself will begin to amass on your position. Devils of all shapes and sizes will arrive to take your head. Numerous bosses, countless fodder spawn, and even the occasion Treasure Gobin will spawn to try and take you down at some point while you're Hellmarked.
How to survive being Hellmarked
No matter what class you're playing in Diablo 4, all of them have defensive abilities that drastically improve survivability. When Hellmarked, your greatest threat is the sheer number of Hellspawn that come after you, not the bosses. It is easy to be completely zerged down when Hellmarked, so I highly recommend you make use of your class' defensive tools.
For example, on my Sorcerer, I actively use Fire Shield for the invulnerability just in case things get crazy. I'm also stacking Cooldown Reduction where I can get it, allowing me more opportunities to cast my defensive. I am also making use of my Sorcerer's excellent mobility via Teleport to keep enemies at arm's length at all times.
