Chocobo Racing is a run-of-the-mill Mario Kart clone built into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and one of the plethora of minigames you can enjoy when you're not saving the world. Chocobo Racing allows you to customize your "kart" by equipping gears, resulting in various Chocobo builds.
In this guide, I compiled the best Chocobo Racing gear and builds that pushed me to first place in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's fantastic minigame.
Best Chocobo Racing gear and builds in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Piko "The All-Rounder" Build
Category | Chocobo Equipment | Effect |
Chocobo | Piko | - |
Helmet | Gi Headdress | Comeback Kid: Increases all attributes when you're 7th place or lower heading into the final lap |
Breastplate | Rodeo Poncho | Trump Card: Gain a dash charge heading into the final lap |
Greaves | Rodeo Legwraps | Master Drifter: Increase drift duration and speed |
Since Piko is an all-around Chocobo in the statistics department, I opted to boost its stats further. Using the Gi Headdress, you'll get a decent boost in Acceleration, Cornering, Strength, and Intelligence. Both the Rodeo Poncho and Rodeo Legwraps increase Speed and Weight to give Piko a good enough speed boost and drift potential.
Given Piko's inferior stats, there may be instances where you'll need to catch up on other Chocobo Racers. The Rodeo Poncho and Gi Headdress's effects address these issues and allow you to easily make a comeback even when you're in last place. Also, Master Drifter is one of the best skills if you like to drift-boost during any type of turn on the course.
Belle "The Rock" Chocobo Build
Category | Chocobo Equipment | Effect |
Chocobo | Belle | - |
Helmet | Rodeo Hat | Heavyweight: Increase weight |
Breastplate | Gi Cloak | Damage Control: Lessen the speed drop when your Chocobo gets damaged. |
Greaves | Gi Legwraps | Dash Sooner: Start with one dash available |
If you're too worried your opponents may knock you out of the track or hit you with a devastating attack, then this build for Belle is for you. This build aims to significantly improve Belle's Acceleration, Speed, and Strength to combat other players in a tight race.
Since Belle's acceleration is far from the best, Damage Control will help your Chocobo whenever you run into obstacles or other fellow racers, as you'll only get a minimal speed penalty. Moreover, having a dash available at the beginning of the race will set you up for success, as you can immediately expend your dash to boost your speed instead of relying on acceleration.

Kyma "The Master Drifter" Build
Category | Chocobo Equipment | Effect |
Chocobo | Kyma | - |
Helmet | Tropical Visor | Determination: Slight increase in speed after being passed. |
Breastplate | Shinra Avian Breastplate | Shinra Avian Breastplate: Increased start-boost chance and increases start-boost speed. |
Greaves | Gi Legwraps | Dash Sooner: Start with one dash available |
Kyma's stats revolve around Acceleration, Cornering, Strength, and Intelligence. With the equipment and gear above, this build will take advantage of these stats by further boosting Kyma's potential to dominate the race at the start of the game.
This build will also enhance Kyma's drifting capabilities, making it the perfect Chocobo for tracks with tight and long corners. Kyma's gameplay will revolve around drift-boosts to further distance itself from the competition, so make sure to utilize the drift-boost mechanic as seen in other Mario Kart games.
