FF16 Clive Build – Best Abilities for Clive

Kameeee...hameeee...HAAAAA!

Final Fantasy XVI has moved from the traditional turn-based combat, adopting a live-action style of fighting, shifting the whole meta with it. Clive, a trained swordsman from an early age, is an adaptive fighter, and I immediately noticed that many combinations and builds would be possible with the game's expansive skill system. Naturally, I started theory-crafting with my colleagues about the best build for Clive in the game. Here is what we have come up with.

Best ability build in Final Fantasy XVI for Clive

When building Clive's abilities in FFXVI, you will be able to choose two Eikon abilities from three different Eikons of your choice, which means that you can have six different abilities in total. In the beginning, you will only have a single Eikon's powers, but you will obtain up to seven different Eikons throughout the game. Here is the late-game build that works for me in the late game.

  • Titan
    • Upheaval: This skill works well with Rising Flames from Phoenix Eikon. It uses a charging mechanic, creating a shockwave that damages the enemies ahead. You can use it without charging, in which case you can quickly knock down a group of enemies. It's especially good for dealing Will damage.
    • Titanic Block: This ability is useful in a way that lets you straight-up block enemy attacks. Parries carry a high risk-reward, and evasion is sometimes impossible depending on your position, which makes Titanic Block especially useful during end-game boss encounters.
  • Phoenix
    • Flames of Rebirth: A staple for combating multiple enemies, Flames of Rebirth deals plenty of AoE damage by summoning a massive fire pillar. It also restores some of your HP back for good measure. This is the best Phoenix ability, in my opinion.
    • Rising Flames: This is the very first ability you learn in the game, and I found it to be useful throughout due to the ability to knock enemies up in the air, setting them up for an aerial combo. It is also an ability with the lowest cooldown in the game. I use Upheaval to quickly knock them down, then follow up with Rising Flames.
  • Bahamut
    • Gigaflare: This will be the highest-damaging ability in your arsenal, with a staggering 5-star damage score. It will effectively be your ultimate, so use it accordingly. It releases a giant laser-like beam that deals massive damage to enemies that get caught in it. Gigaflare works even better with staggered enemies, giving you a multiplier.
    • Impulse: Works well if you use it right before Gigaflare, as it provides several light spheres that bind all enemies they hit to the spot, staggering them while doing continuous damage.
