It’s no secret that Final Fantasy XVI’s gameplay is more challenging than your regular FF game, but things become more manageable with the right equipment. Naturally, most Final Fantasy titles have a variation of the Ultima Weapon, one of the most overpowered weapons in the series. Here’s how you can get it in FF16.
How to make the Ultima Weapon in FF16
You heard it right—the Ultima Weapon here is crafted, not found, much like in FFVII, FFX, and so on. However, you’ll only have access to the recipe after you beat the game once and unlock Final Fantasy difficulty. You can think of it as the equivalent of FFVII Remake’s Hard Mode. The enemies are stronger, and you can run into late-game mobs in early areas. You’ll even encounter new enemies that weren't present during your first run.

- Two items you automatically get during the main story on FF Mode

Ragnarok is a type of sword that requires a quest chain to get. The chain you’re looking at is Blacksmith’s Blues I, II, III, and IV in Cid’s Hideaway on Final Fantasy mode. The first one can be unlocked as early as Main Story Quest 35: Here Be Monsters. This is after you visit your uncle by the harbor.
If you complete Blacksmith’s Blues in Story or Action mode, you'll get Gotterdammerung, its materials, and the recipe to craft it. Gotterdammerung is the best sword Clive can have on any standard run.
After you’ve gathered all the materials, speak to the blacksmith. He’ll make the Ultima Weapon for you. You can craft Ragnarok during your first run of the Main Story. It’s one of the best swords to equip until you can get Ultima. With all these swords, you won't even need to dodge or parry as much.
