Summons are one of the most powerful abilities in the Final Fantasy series, and while they are present in Final Fantasy XVI, they've taken on a new form. They are now known as Eikons, and are tied to particular individuals called Dominants. Knowing this, I was curious if Clive Rosfield—the protagonist and main playable character of FFXVI—was a Dominant, despite his brother being the Phoenix Dominant.
Is Clive a Dominant in FFXVI?
Initially, we learn that the Phoenix Eikon passed over Clive; despite this, it turns out that he is also a Dominant. Clive Rosfield is Ifrit, the second Eikon of Fire, with Joshua being the Dominant of the Phoenix, the first Eikon of Fire.

Just before Clive transformed into Ifrit, he spotted a mysterious cloaked figure and then, shortly after, a burning man. This is accompanied by a headache, which Clive has experienced before. This leads to an epic battle between Joshua and Clive in their Eikon forms, Phoenix and Ifrit.
In addition to this, Clive has the Phoenix's blessing and can use abilities granted by the Phoenix. These allow for powerful flame attacks even when he isn't in his Ifrit form.
After meeting Clive and walking in his shoes during the game's opening segments, I instantly became endeared with his character. Knowing that he is treated as expendable due to his lack of an Eikon and status of a Dominant yet somehow possessed this ability certainly intrigues me. That said, I look forward to learning more about Clive, Joshua, the Eikons, and everything FFXVI has to offer.
