As far as free trials go, Final Fantasy XIV offers one of the best in terms of the sheer amount of content. But it doesn't give players everything. For those playing FFXIV using a free trial, they are a few restrictions you need to be aware of as you're not playing the complete game entirely for free. You're playing 100% of the story content, but only about 40% of the total features are available. Here is a list of all the FFXIV Free Trial restrictions.
Final Fantasy XIV - Everything you can't do without a Subscription
Free Final Fantasy XIV players can play up to level 60 and play through the entire first expansion, Heavensward, giving them a couple of hundred hours of content for literally nothing.
That said, the FFXIV Free Trial does contain some pretty heavy restrictions, listed as follows:
- Can have up to eight characters (one per world)
- Can't attend Ceremonies of Eternal Bonding
- Can't purchase Home World Transfers
- Can't hire Retainers
- Capped at level 60
- Can't play as Gunbreaker, Samurai, Dancer, Red Mage, Reaper, or Sage classes
- 300,000 Gil cap
- Can't use /yell, /tell, or /shout commands
- Can't trade
- Can't send friend requests
- Can't access the Market Board
- Can't join or create a Free Company
- Can't create a Party
- Can't participate in The Feast PvP
- Can't join a PvP team
- Unable to buy Housing
- Can't play Triple Triad against other players
- Can't use the Lodestone
- Can't use the FFXIV Companion App
- Can't create Linkshells or Cross-World Linkshells
- Unable to access content past Heavensward expansion
- Can't send in-game letters
To gain access to all of the above, you'll need to purchase a Final Fantasy 14 subscription, which costs around $12.99 per month.
