How to Grind FATE in Final Fantasy XIV

For those who have just begun playing Final Fantasy XIV, FATEs are random dynamic events that appear all over the Eorzea map. After successfully completing a FATE, you will get various rewards depending on your performance.

Types of FATE in Final Fantasy XIV

You will see FATE as little purple icons on your minimap. There are five different types of FATE, each with a different icon.

  • Slayer: The icon that looks like crossed weapons is Slay Enemies, and this FATE requires that you slay waves of incoming monsters.
  • Boss: Next is an icon with a monster face, which signifies a Boss Monster fight.
  • Collect: We have a pouch/bag icon for collecting items. FATE like this will have you collect items that are scattered around or kill monsters for items.
  • Escort: These FATE are marked with a cross on a shield icon. Those missions are obvious: you must guide and protect NPCs from one location to another.
  • Defend: These FATE missions are marked with a tower icon. This FATE will have you defend an NPC or some items for a specific period.

What is Level Syncing in FATE? (Final Fantasy XIV)

Level Syncing is one of the exciting features of FATE missions. Each FATE has a recommended level, and if your character is higher than that, you can choose to synchronize your level with the level of the FATE.

By pressing the Level Sync button, the game will bring down your level to the FATE's required level, allowing you to engage in it. Be aware level syncing can only work downward, so you cannot increase your level. This feature prevents high-level players from smurfing the FATEs.

What are FATE Rewards in Final Fantasy XIV?

The main reason for doing FATE missions is rewards. As mentioned, FATE missions are the fastest way for the DPS characters to level up. Dungeons and group content are also great for gathering experience, but their downtime is grueling.

Except for experience, FATE missions can also get you Gill and Grand Company Seals. You can use the latter as a currency at Grand Company vendors to buy rare items. Some special FATE missions will drop mounts or minions upon completion.
