Final Fantasy XVI was first announced in 2020 but was in development for longer than that, though COVID-19 did delay development. This news means that the game is nearly complete and will likely reveal a release date soon.

Square Enix has been on a roll with Final Fantasy content having recently released the Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker expansion and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Indeed, the notion that the game is nearing completion comes as a pleasant surprise after a long period of silence.
