If you want the fifth workbench upgrade or obsidian or poison arrow, you will need to gather up some obsidian ore; here's where to find it and how to get it.
Where to get obsidian in Valheim
To get obsidian in Valheim, you will need to head deep into the mountain biome; around the highest parts of the biome you can find obsidian mounds, but to mine the obsidian you will need to make an iron pickaxe.
Here is what you need to make an iron pickaxe in Valheim.
You can craft an iron pickaxe with the materials listed above inside a level two forge. However, to get the iron you need, you will need to head into the swamp biome and mine muddy mounds inside sunken crypts that require a swamp key to open.

After that, you will be able to mine obsidian, but before heading into the mountains, you will need to have some protection against freezing, as you will die without it. We suggest making frost protection mead as it's your best way to get in the biome without warm clothes like wolf armor.
That said, here is what you need for frost protection mead.
- Ten Honeys: To make honey, you will need to make a beehive with a queen bee.
- Five Thistles: You can get thistle from the black forest.
- Two Bloodbags: To get bloodbags, you will need to travel down to the swamp and kill leaches; we suggest killing them with a bow if you don't have decent armor.
- Two Greydwarf eyes: you can get these by killing greydwarfs that spawn everywhere in the black forest and meadows biomes.
