Since Magnus will fight you regardless of your first two choices, it's just the last decision that matters. The game says to provoke the Magnus, and the right choice is Provoke The Magnus. This makes it as simple as possible.
The entire fight revolves around the choices you make. Magnus won't throw a planet at you if you kneel, but Nikki will protect you when he does. Be a jerk and fight your way out!
