You may be tempted to strictly pick the Light Cones you use for each Honkai: Star Rail character based on rarity. However, the effects that each Light Cone have, particularly when Superimposed to Level Five, can make Three-Star Light Cones very viable options when first starting your journey. Want to know which ones you should consider keeping over turning into Aether? Read on.
Honkai Star Rail - Best Three-Star Light Cones for each Path
Here are our picks for the best Three-Star Light Cones for each path in Honkai: Star Rail.
Best Preservation Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
For March 7th, the Amber Light Cone's skill can be nuts, boosting her defense based on a percentage that other four-star Light Cones can't even match. The other options do provide some healing, which can help in a pinch, but they just can't compare to this Light Cone's easy-to-obtain boost.
Best Abundance Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
The Multiplication Light Cone effectively grants Bronya's talent to the wearer, advancing their turn forward every time they use their basic attack for skill point management, or because healing just isn't needed at the moment. It can be a good failsafe, or it can consistently provide a little more energy for characters who rely on their Ultimate skills, like Natasha.

Best Destruction Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
Out of the three options for the Path of Destruction, Mutual Demise is likely the best option. A hefty Critical Rate bonus is always welcome, but this Light Cone will require you to manage the wearers HP carefully. It can certainly be exploited by characters who appreciate having shields and lower HP, like Arlan.
Best Erudition Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
While it can't be abused by Qingque, the consistent Energy boosts that the Passkey Light Cone provides is very welcome for AoE characters who deal most of their damage through their Ultimate attack. It's definitely an option to consider for other free Erudition characters you receive, like Herta or Serval.
Best Harmony Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
Much like Passkey, the Meshing Cogs Light Cone provides pretty consistent Energy Regeneration for support characters who want to use their Ultimate as frequently as possible. While the other two Harmony light cone options are tempting, their skills have limited usefulness due to their turn and stack restrictions.

Best Hunt Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
For characters who already have naturally higher speed stats, the Adversarial Light Cone further increases it based on a percentage for two full turns at a time. Combine this with Relics that reward you for higher speed stats, and you have a winning combination.
Best Nihility Three-Star Light Cone in Honkai Star Rail
The Nihility Three-Star Light Cone options feel a bit limited in value. Out of the three, Hidden Shadow appears to be the most useful. To be specific, it requires you to use your skill and basic attacks in a certain order, which is not always an option. You won't receive any Nihility characters for free, so you may have better four-star options to use by the time you start building Nihility characters.
