Honkai: Star Rail's combat system is simple in theory, but beginners will often find themselves struggling to defeat common enemies. A turn-based system means that you need to pay more attention to every character's stat values and strategically calibrate them to become the most efficient in battle—a challenge we're always up for (but not everyone else is). So, we'll help you better understand some of the key terms.
One of the game's less straightforward stats is called Effect Hit Rate. Here's everything you need to know about it.
What is Effect Hit Rate in Honkai Star Rail?
Effect Hit Rate is a stat that increases your character's chances of inflicting debuffs on an enemy. "Debuff" doesn't just mean stat debuffs in Honkai: Star Rail. They also apply to status effects like Freeze, Shock, and Imprisonment. You can check your character's Effect Hit Rate by going to Details and clicking More Stats.
Most skills are only able to apply debuffs at a low base chance. You can increase the chances of successfully debuffing enemies by increasing the caster's Effect Hit Rate.
Effect Hit Rate matters more to characters of the Nihility Path like Pela and Welt. In the example above, you can see that Welt has a 65% base chance to reduce the enemy's SPD using his Skill. By using a Light Cone and Relics that increase Effect Hit Rate, you can likewise increase Welt's chance to reduce the enemy's SPD by a large margin.

What is the ideal Effect Hit Rate in HSR?
But here's the tricky part: a 100% Effect Hit Rate does not mean a 100% chance of debuffing enemies. You must consider how enemies naturally have Effect RES against certain Elements and debuffs, reducing the effectivity of your character's Effect Hit Rate. At Trailblazer Level 60, an extra Effect Hit Rate of 67% is needed to make sure that a skill with a "100% base chance" of landing truly lands.
How to increase Effect Hit Rate in Honkai Star Rail
With that said, it's possible to increase the Effect Hit Rate to over 100% for higher debuff chances with Relics (body can roll Effect Hit Rate as its main stat) and Planar Ornaments.
Below are also some Light Cones that can boost said stat:
- In the Name of the World (five-star, Nihility): Increases the wearer's DMG to debuffed enemies by 24% to 40%. When the wearer uses their Skill, the Effect Hit Rate for their attack increases by 18% to 30%, and ATK increases by 24% to 40%.
- Moment of Victory (five-star, Preservation): Increases the wearer's DEF by 24% to 40% and Effect Hit Rate by 24% to 40%, among other effects.
- Eyes of the Prey (four-star, Nihility): Increases the wearer's Effect Hit Rate by 20% to 40% and increases status effect damage by 24% to 48%.
- Void (three-star, Nihility): At the start of the battle, the wearer's Effect Hit Rate increases by 20% to 40% for three turns.
