Not long after entering the strange and foreign land of Termina, Link and his faithful steed, Epona, are tragically separated. You're led to believe she's gone for good and that you'll just have to somehow learn to get along without her. Fortunately, Epona survived her encounter with the mischievous Skull kid, and she's just waiting out there somewhere in Termina to be rescued. All you have to do is find her first, and we're here to help—here's how to unlock Epona.
Where to find Epona
To bring your equine companion home, first, ensure you have access to both the Hero's Bow and Powder Keg items. These can be obtained from the Woodfall Temple's mini-boss and Goron Village's Big Goron. Once you've added both tools to your roster, head over to Milk Road on the First Day. Make your way to the large boulder blocking the path, then use a Powder Keg to destroy it and clear the road to Romani Ranch.

Once this has been done, venture into the Ranch and follow the path until you reach a young girl named Romani. Speak with her to learn a bit about a little extraterrestrial problem the Ranch is facing and how they need a bit of help to stop these space invaders from stealing all of the Ranch's cows.
Offer to help her, and she'll allow you to temporarily ride Epona as part of a mini-game, one in which you'll need to use the Hero's Bow to pop six balloons in under two minutes. Upon completing her challenging training regimen, Romani will allow Link to keep Epona and teaches him Epona's Song, allowing you to call your steed to your side while traversing the fields of Termina.
Where to go next
Now that you've upgraded you're a method of travel while exploring, there are a few new things you're able to do. You can continue the Main Story by making your way over to the Great Bay in West Termina, using Epona to jump over the high-rising fences blocking your path. If you'd like to add a couple of handy items to your collection first, however, you'll need to make a couple of stops along the way.
By traveling to the Gorman Racetrack, you can earn the Garo Mask as a reward for defeating the Gorman Brothers in a race. Another option is to help Romani defend the Romani Ranch from aliens, gaining a Bottle for emerging victorious. Additionally, you can earn a second Bottle after this task is completed, so be sure to take part in protecting the Ranch before it's too late!
