Arguably, some of the very best horror games are games set in first-person, so you can feel like you're actually in the midst of the terrors.

Best First Person Horror Games

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is definitely up there with one of the creepiest first-person horror games, not only because of the bizarre and aggressive creatures chasing you but because of the mere size of some of the enemies, like the notorious Lady Dimitrescu. You can also experience this in VR if you're feeling particularly brave.

Condemned: Criminal Origins

Although this one is a bit of an oldie, released back in 2006, it still remains one of the most recommended first-person horror games. Play as a detective, struggling with the concept of intention by murder. As you're framed for murder yourself, you must piece together the case while you also investigate something seemingly more sinister behind the scenes.

Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest, the sequel to The Forest, is a survival-focused horror game, in which, you are stranded on a cannibalistic island filled with terrors of all shapes and sizes. You can team up with other players in online co-op and attempt to survive by using the resources available to you, as well as figure out the truth behind this ominous location.

The Beast Inside

The Beast Inside is a story-driven horror game with gripping twists and turns throughout. Play as two different protagonists living in different time periods, but both owners of the haunted property, and attempt to piece together the history of what truly happened there by collecting clues and solving puzzles. Sometimes, the past is better left in the past...

SOMA

Sci-fi fans are definitely not left out when it comes to horror. SOMA is set in a futuristic underwater bunker where you are trapped without any contact. Somehow, you'll have to find a way to the surface, but it will require bravery and perseverance to withstand the dangers lurking in every corner.

Visage

Visage is a unique horror experience focused around the environment, a seemingly endless abandoned mansion full of dark secrets. As you explore, the tension will slowly build as you uncover pieces of past family histories and witness with your own eyes what horrors were committed there.

Haunted Investigation

In Haunted Investigation, you can team up with other friends online and explore a haunted mansion. Inside, you must complete puzzles, investigate, and, most importantly, survive. With several different endings, you can play this multiple times without growing bored of it and uncovering new twists with each playthrough.

Alien Isolation

If you're looking for more Sci-Fi horror options, Alien Isolation is a must-play. In a volatile world, Amanda goes looking for her lost mother, who disappeared 15 years earlier. However, to track down her mother and find out the truth, she will have to face the same horrors that awaited her years earlier and potentially become a victim of them as well.

Deceit 2

Deceit 2 is a social deduction multiplayer horror game, meaning you will pit against your own friends. Trapped in a facility, players must work together to try to escape, but the twist is two of them are not really who they say they are. Two players at random will be possessed and seek to sabotage and destroy the others. You will be tasked with figuring out who to trust and who to exorcise.

Labyrinthine

Labyrinthe is another great co-op horror option set in first-person. Play on several different horrifying maps, even the notorious Backrooms, as you team up to try and solve puzzles, form the entities, and escape the location alive. Each time you play is a fresh, terrifying experience with procedurally generated items puzzles and dangers that scale to your level.

Choo-Choo Charles

Maybe you've never thought of a train as scary before, but after playing this experience, you may just change your mind. You will navigate around this open-world island in your own train cart, picking up useful items as you go along. When Choo-Choo Charles comes chugging along, you're going to need to fight him off using everything at your disposal.

Ad Infinitum

Ad Infinitum is a war-themed horror experience that will make you question what is reality and what is a nightmare, or maybe they have become too similar to tell the difference. You will flashback between your home and the trenches of World War I as your whole life flashes before you. Can you face the horrors of the past, mixed with the brand new horrors of the present, and make it out alive?

Amensia: The Bunker

Also set in the World War I period, Amnesia: The Bunker is all about puzzles, crafting, and survival as you are stalked by an AI-driven monster. With an entity that grows smarter and adapts to your move, you will be put to the ultimate test of sanity and perseverance. Don't forget to watch your back.

Blair Witch

Inspired by the cinematic lore of Blair Witch, this game allows you to have your chance to investigate the notorious Black Hills Forest for yourself. As an ex-police officer, Ellis, you will put your fears behind you to join the search for a lost boy. Demonologist

Demonologist is another amazing multiplayer horror experience, much like Phasmaphobia, but a touch more sinister. Dive into different locations using various equipment and attempt to communicate with the entities, deciphering who and what they are. You will run into all types of jumpscares, items moving when they aren't supposed to, and more terrifying coincidences.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is one first-person horror game that has stuck with me to this day. You will be faced with all kinds of atrocities in this disturbing and spine-chilling experience. The first-person view really makes you feel like you're there. If you're brave enough, you might just be able to make it out of this evil family's house alive.

Layers of Fear

You will feel all types of fear while you play this perfectly named game, Layers of Fear. This game ties all Layers of Fear stories together, piecing together the stories of each individual introduced through the series: the painter, the writer, and the actor. Solve puzzles to complete the masterful story, full of horrors and surprises to the very end.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach
