Is there online multiplayer in Nintendo Switch Sports?

We just can't believe it's back!

Nintendo’s Feb. Direct came with equally exciting news in an exciting series of announcements: Nintendo Switch Sports. It’s going to have most sports available in Wii Sports, its predecessor, along with a couple of new ones like Badminton, Volleyball, and Soccer. But given how multiplayer is, arguably, the only way to play the game, will Nintendo Switch Sports support it?

Thankfully, Nintendo Switch Sports will indeed support online multiplayer. However, you can only play with up to one person. For example, you can partner up for Volleyball, as demoed during the game’s announcement.

The game will come out on April 29. However, an online playtest will be conducted on Feb. 18 to 20 for the following sports: Bowling, Chambara, and Tennis. You won’t be able to play with friends, but random matchmaking will allow you to experience the game’s online multiplayer feature.

You will need to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership to participate, however.

Nintendo Switch Sports will feature more than just new sports. As showcased in the trailer, you will be allowed to create your Miis like in the original game. Default avatars are available for non-Mii players.
