New Champion rank in Overwatch 2 Season 9

Overwatch 2 Season 9 introduces a new rank in competitive play called the Champion. This rank is above the existing Grandmaster rank, providing higher-level players with a very exclusive achievement based on their skill level.

New ranks are always a welcome addition, in my opinion, as they provide an ultimate goal for players to work towards, serving as motivation for improvement in competitive gameplay. A higher position brings a new set of challenges to overcome as individuals strive to be the best of the best.

Placements and rank reset in Overwatch 2 Season 9

In addition to introducing a new rank for players to achieve, Season 9 of Overwatch 2 also includes a soft reset of all player ranks to unranked. This allows everyone to play 10 placement matches, which ultimately determine a player's rank. What's new is the ability to see your predicted rank after each placement game, so you get an idea of what to expect.

This year, you only have one opportunity to compete for placements and impact your final rank, as the game transitions to a more serious competitive format. Not only does this give players the opportunity to start fresh in a new season, but it also provides a chance to experience all the new competitive changes that Overwatch 2 Season 9 brings, including new methods for viewing competitive updates and gaining a better understanding of skill modifiers.

This includes information such as the win streaks, the number of times you ended up clutching a game when it was not in your favor. You have the opportunity to view the new skill modifiers at the end of each competitive match, allowing you to gain insight into your performance and identify areas for improvement in order to advance in rank.

At the end of each competitive game, you earn competitive points that can be used to unlock all-new jade weapons in Overwatch 2 Season 9. Your previously-earned competitive points are converted into legacy competitive points, which can be used to unlock golden weapons.

Every 3000 points you earn playing competitively can be redeemed for a jade weapon. When this season ends, your remaining competitive points will be converted into legacy competitive points. This gives you the opportunity to unlock exclusive rewards that are only available this season.

Overwatch 2 Season 9 brings numerous updates to the competitive gameplay that players may notice while playing. All of these are welcome changes, as competitive play is an important mode for the game, and refining it makes the experience better for all of us.
