What are Paradox Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Past and Future regional varients arrive in the Present day.

Pokémon always finds interesting ways to incorporate known Pokémon into new regions, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are literally bumping this up into a new timeline. Given that the games' title legendaries, Miraidon and Koraidon, and its regional professors are designed with “past” and “future” themes, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet aim to carry this motif into its regional exclusives.

Paradox Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet explained

Depending on your game, reputable leakers have shared that you can capture unique Paradox Pokémons that are either a “past” or a “future” version of itself. For example, Salamence is reported to have a past regional variant, which is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, while Gallade is reported to have a future regional variant, which is exclusive to Pokémon Violet.

Below is the current list of Paradox Pokémon in circulation. Please note that this is still a leak, and official Pokémon channels have confirmed nothing since writing.

Aside from new Pokémon variants, the Paldea region has also introduced a gimmick called the Terastral Phenomenon. Every Pokémon in the region is born with a Tera type, and the moves that match said type get a boost in power. Rare Pokémon with a Tera type different from their main type can even Terastallize and change types mid-battle.

You can find Terastral Pokémon more often in Tera Raid battles, similar to Max Raid Battles in Sword and Shield.

Aside from the Terastral Phenomenon, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the first mainline title to be fully open-world. Trainers can choose to tackle gyms in any order they want and explore cities and towns in any order.
