Are Sims 4 Mods dangerous or safe?

Modding makes The Sims world go around.

The Sims 4 is a fun game, but let's be honest, it becomes quite a bit more fun when mods have been installed. Mods open up the game's possibilities in terms of functionality and story. The question is, though, are they safe?

For the most part, the answer is yes, they are safe. Anyone that is a true member of the simmer community will be making mods that are genuinely meant to enhance your gameplay and not harm your system.

How to Tell if a Sims 4 Mod is Dangerous or Safe

You will need to pay attention to where you are getting the mods from. There are commonly used websites such as Mod the SimsTwistedMexi, and Sims 4 Studio. However, there are a lot of simmers who upload mods to their own blogs, GitHubs, and io pages.

Any mod site will usually have a review/comments section, so if you are unsure of whether a mod has been vetted or not, you can check there to see what other players are saying. If there are no comments, you can always do a quick Google search to see what feedback people have given it to ensure that nothing malicious comes up.

Check YouTube for Confirmation

Another method is taking to YouTube and looking up some of the mods that the well-known simmers on there are using. Usually, playing The Sims is their job, so they wouldn't recommend anything that hasn't been confirmed to be safe.

Of course, there will be instances where some mods have not been fully tested, so it is always a good idea to keep a backup of your save files just in case something goes awry while using a mod. It is a rarity, but it does happen from time to time. If you are not sure how to restore your save files, check out How to Back Up and Rescue your Saves in The Sims 4 | PC.

Usually, when a mod affects your game, it doesn't crash your entire system. Rather, certain items in the game stop working.

Scan with Anti-Virus Software

Another method worth attempting: scan the files with anti-virus software. Downloaded files usually can't do anything until you have accessed and interacted with them, so you can scan them first before activating and attempting to install anything.
