When it comes to shooters, guns and grenades go hand-in-hand, and Splitgate is no different. It features an arsenal of guns and grenades, of which you can carry two. But grenades in Splitgate work a little differently than you might expect.
You can throw grenades by pressing the G key on the mouse and keyboard or pressing down on the D-pad on consoles. In Splitgate, the only type of grenade in the game is the EMP Grenades.

If you have thrown a grenade at another player only for it to do nothing, you might be wondering why that is the case.
EMP grenades deal no damage to players. The only purpose of EMP grenades is to destroy portals. Throwing one of these grenades at a portal will effectively destroy it and shut off that player's ability to teleport. A well-placed grenade can shut off an enemy's escape route and prevent them from firing at you through the portal.
When a player is killed, their portals will disappear naturally, so it is best to hold on to your grenade if you have just killed a player. If a player is on the other side of a portal, the portal will be flashing. This is a good cue to either shut off that portal or go in guns blazing. It is also worth noting that a single grenade can destroy multiple portals.
