Stardew Valley is a much more complex game than it may appear on the surface. Even players who have been in the Stardew game for some time can use tips to boost their gameplay. We've split our advice into clear categories, like fishing and mines.
Best Farming Tips for Stardew Valley
Crops are the heart and soul of Stardew Valley. They truly make the game a farming simulator, meaning there are a lot of details to keep track of. If you're looking to feel more confident in your crop yields and even make some great cash, check out these useful tips that we've compiled:
- Don't neglect to farm crops, no matter how far in the game you get. Farming crops can always benefit you, whether you're just selling small crops or making Ancient Fruit wine.
- Be aware of all Stardew Valley profession paths before you reach the time to decide on them.
- Use crops that produce more than once. Some examples are corn, grapes, and cactus.
- If you're doing the Community Center, plant crops needed for each season's bundle as early as possible. This is especially true for the High-Quality Crops bundle.
- Watch your TV every morning. Here you can check the weather for the next day, see the amount of luck you have, get recipes for free, and even get the occasional useful tip.
- Don't skip out on using fertilizers, crafting sprinklers and scarecrows, and even upgraded farming tools. These will help you maximize your farming skills.
- Get a seed maker ASAP. This will allow you to get seeds pretty much free of charge!
You don't just plant seeds on a farm! Farming is hard work that includes caring for animals and keeping your land maintained. Use these other miscellaneous farm tips for anything that goes beyond basic crop growing and selling:
- Build a Silo before a Coop. This will allow you to cut all the grass surrounding your farm without wasting it.
- Make your animals happy all the time. This means feeding them, petting them, and adding a heater to their space during the winter.
- As a beginner, don't rush to get animals as quickly as possible. They require money, time, and lots of resources. Build your farm in other ways, and start slowly with a chicken or two.
- Don't throw away or sell simple materials. These include clay, stone, fiber, wood, and others similar. Materials like this are much more useful, being saved in abundance for many upgrades on your farm.
Best Villager Tips for Stardew Valley
With how many villagers reside in Pelican Town, it might be hard to know who to prioritize and how to get more time with them. If you want some tips on how to increase your relationships with NPCs, as well as how to make money and maximize time, then heed these tips we've laid out for players:
- Find out what gifts certain villagers will give you once you reach higher relationship levels. This will help you know what you can get out of your relationship with them and who to spend your time on.
- Use the winter season to spend the most time chatting up and gifting items to villagers. You'll have more free time at this point, especially in your first year.
- Even if you don't care about some villagers, take a moment when you pass by them to chat. Increasing relationship value by talking to them when convenient is a passive way to improve friendships.
- If you need quick money, check the board beside Pierre's shop to get some easy quests from the locals.
Best Mine Tips for Stardew Valley
Mines are pretty cut and dry, for the most part. You go down into them, break rocks, and slay creatures. But we still managed to find some top-tier pieces of advice for you to follow while you're heading underground:
- Use bombs to clear out rocks quickly when you're pressed for time and only looking to go down multiple levels.
- Bring high-quality snacks with you to the mines. If you don't have the money or recipes for these, search trash cans often and save them in chests until you go to the mines.
- Make sure you have plenty of backpack space before you head to the mines. There's nothing worse than having no room for a rare item.
- Make some staircases ahead of time if you want to clear levels fast.
- Invest money in extended backpack space early on if you plan on playing the mines heavily.

Best Fishing Tips for Stardew Valley
Fishing can be a bit intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. If you keep practicing, you can increase your fishing skill easily. That's why we didn't want to focus on tips for leveling up, but instead increase your gain. Use our tips to get rarer fish, level up faster, and even make fishing easier on yourself as a beginner:
- Whenever you get the first fishing pole from Willy, buy the Training Rod from his Fish Shop instead. This will make fishing a lot easier when you first start out.
- Fish whenever it is raining. You'll get rarer fish this way!
- Look for unusual spots to fish. This can be a great tactic when hunting for unique fish types.
- Bring some Trout Soup with you for extended fishing sessions. You can get this at the Fish Shop or some days at the Stardrop Saloon.
- Look for bubbles in the water. These are spots where higher-quality fish are lurking.
- Don't fish at the same time every day. Spice it up and try different times of day to get more diverse catches.
