How to Fly Faster in Starfield

Gotta go faster than the speed of light!

Starfield's space travel is a blast, and I love zipping from planet to planet or simply exploring the vastness of space. That said, space is massive, so I need to get around quickly if I'm in the process of completing a mission. Your spaceship has powerful thrusters, letting you fly through space relatively easily. But sometimes, I want to push these to the limit and fly fast. Let's take a look at Starfield's controls and see how to increase flying speed.

How to Increase Flying Speed in Starfield

While flying in space, you can increase your ship's flying speed by holding W on PC or forward on the Left Stick for Xbox. Doing so will increase your speed in the direction you move your mouse or the right stick.

Your speed is tracked by the left side of your reticle while flying. A bar rises and falls to indicate your speed. Keeping the bar in the center of the gauge, particularly in the white part, will allow you to turn it properly. I recommend slowing down when you need to turn and keeping your speed in this area.

You can also redirect power to your Engines to increase your flying speed. You'll need to divert power from another Subsystem, but this is a good way to increase your speed. Just revert power to your Lasers and Shields if you get attacked.

How to Boost While Flying in Starfield

In addition to flying faster, you can boost to get a temporary burst of speed. Simply press Shift on PC or press down the Left Stick on Xbox. Boost is tracked by the gauge on the right side. Once you have run out of this bar, the gauge will slowly fill back up and let you boost again. You cannot turn off the boost once you begin it.
