As a Starfield player, I have a habit of hoarding every item I find while exploring new areas. If you're like me, one of the best ways to upgrade your character is to increase your carrying capacity. Here's how to maximize your inventory space in Starfield.
How to Increase Carrying Capacity in Starfield
To increase carrying capacity in Starfield, you need to unlock the Weight Lifting skill by investing Skill Points. The first upgrade unlocks Rank 1 Weight Lifting which increases the total carrying capacity by 10 kilograms. This will allow you to carry more weight in your inventory, so feel free to pick up all the items you want. The Weight Lifting skill has four Ranks, and you can progress to Rank 4 which increases total carrying capacity by 100 kilograms.

How to unlock Rank 2 Weight Lifting Skill in Starfield
After unlocking Rank 1 for Weight Lifting, you'll get a challenge to unlock Rank 2 for this skill. Here's the objective you need to complete to unlock Rank 2 for Weight Lifting.
- Sprint 1,000 meters while at 75% or more of your maximum load capacity.
To complete this challenge quickly, I recommend carrying certain heavy items like Dumbells, weapons, and other weighty objects. With these items in your inventory, sprint around an area for 1,000 meters. I sprinted around the Kreet Research Lab for a few minutes while at maximum weight capacity to complete this challenge quickly. You'll get to see the progress bar for these challenges on the left side of your screen (as shown in the image above).
Remember, sprinting while encumbered quickly depletes your Oxygen levels, so it's best to take breaks during this process to avert Carbon dioxide buildup. I recommend going back and forth on a specific path, preferably 100 meters, to progress in this challenge easily.
How to carry more items in Starfield
You can give some of the items from your inventory to Vasco to carry around. Interact with the robot and select the "Let's trade gear" dialogue option to transfer different items from your inventory to Vasco's stash. While in the trading screen, select items from your inventory and transfer them over to Vasco. This allows you to collect and hold more items while exploring different regions. For instance, I collected six Maelstrom guns by defeating enemies, and I transferred five of them to Vasco for safekeeping.
Likewise, you can also interact with the Cargo Hold computer on your ship to store various items inside it. Remember, the Cargo Hold also has a certain mass capacity. The Cargo Hold computer is located just behind the Pilot Seat, check the image above to see how it looks in-game. Prioritize picking up essential crafting materials, research items, healing consumables, digipicks, and ammunition. Be smart and decisive while picking up these items, as you won't need everything.
