Valve and Steam announced that they’re journeying into the handheld market with their latest creation: the Steam Deck. This portable computer allows players to access their complete Steam library, download games, and play them away from their PC. But how long will battery life last on this portable device?
The product page for the Steam Deck states that the console’s battery life lies somewhere in between 2-8 hours. The life of the console depends heavily on the application or game used. Less taxing titles like Stardew Valley will likely last longer than graphic powerhouses like Jedi Fallen Oder. It all depends on what’s being played and for how long.

While the Steam Deck’s primary focus is gaming, consumers can use the device for other tasks. It can browse the internet, use productive applications, and stream videos. Those interested in taking their content to the living room can also buy the dock (sold separately) to connect the device to TV screens. It’s sure to be a hot commodity for the 2021 Holiday season, but those proactive enough can snag a preorder if they reserve a system in time.
Reservations for the Steam Deck go live on July 16, 2021, 10 AM PDT/1 PM EDT/6 PM BST. Valve hasn’t disclosed how many units they plan to have ready before the console releases, but it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to gaming hardware.
