Steam user now finally have the ability to record and share their gameplay through the platform. This feature comes unexpectedly as Steam announced its Game Recording feature and made it available instantly for all Steam users.
The new Game Recording feature will let players record, replay, clip and of course, share all their gameplay footage on Steam. Though they may sound normal, Steam takes these basic features up a notch with the Steam Timeline. Forgot what an NPC said but don't want to go through hours of footage? Steam will mark it for you. Want to see where you died while searching for that lucrative piece of armor? Steam will mark it for you.
You obviously can mark things for yourself with the Player Markers, but Steam saves you the hassle of doing that. This doesn't work in all games, but we imagine it will work for the most popular games on the platform as well as upcoming ones.
You'll also be able to quickly share your clips to your phone or any other device to check those out. So if your friends don't believe you got that armor or beat that boss, send out the clip to them directly to them.
Game Recording is also available on the Steam Deck which is an even bigger plus. Deck users will likely need to be more aware of any performance and power usage differences, mind you, given the device is portable and has lower specs compared to an average gaming PC.
The ability to record games has been one of the most wanted features for Steam and it's definitely unexpected that it didn't happen sooner. Still, this is a huge win for all the Steam users who want to record key moments from their playthroughs.
Reactions have been pretty positive so far. If you want to get your hands on it yourself, the Game Recording feature is now in its beta mode so we can expect more tweaks and fixes to it in the coming days.
