Full Ludern region map guide – Wartales

You'll find Ludern Region by leaving Vertruse Province to the northeast beyond Smot's Arena or via the Bandit Border Crossing east of Tiltren County. I found all the mobs are level 7 or 8 if playing on Experienced, which was a solid but manageable step up in difficulty. However, some battles are much more challenging than others, and the region has some fun new surprises.

The less-than-jolly combat theme of the region is the plague. You'll need to have cures to hand if you want your party to survive the night after battles, but they're not easy to find. Make sure you can make them before you arrive, and also look out for roving bands of merchants with masks, as they'll sell you Plague Cure potions too.

All locations in the Ludern Region in Wartales

Note that you won't be able to get to and enter Ludern Tomb until you have completed a large chunk of the region's scenario quest, so don't waste ages looking for a way up the mountain as I did…

  1. Harag Border Crossing: The entrance to the region from Vertruse Province.
  2. Ludern Stables: quest location.
  3. Nairolf Arena: Self-contained quest location. Once you've defeated the champion here, you can get the Training Dummy from the store NPC.
  4. Bandit Border Crossing: This is a handy crossing point into Tiltren County. If you haven't cleared it before, it will now be a very easy battle with some bandits.
  5. Rat Infestation: Self-contained quest location.
  6. Old Edorian Outpost: If you give the NPC here 20 Mosquito Proboscises, she'll give you the Legendary Weapon, Bog Thunder. It's a Two-Handed Mace that is strong versus Mosquitos.
  7. Fatclaw Cave: Self-contained quest location where you'll be able to get a Golden Key.
  8. Ludern Jail: Companions for no Influence, plus criminal drop-off location. You can also get the camp recipe item for a Dice Table here. This generates two Happiness if two companions are assigned to it.
  9. Community of the Light: Quest location.
  10. Rat Infestation: Self-contained quest location.
  11. Yeble Clan: Self-contained quest location. There is also a Blacksmith.
  12. Small Tracker Camp: Part of the scenario quest, as well as the Ghost Pack Hunt quest for Ludern.
  13. Ludern Tomb: Quite a straightforward tomb, with 12 locations and two Legendary Items. Do note there are three battles inside and another immediately after you leave, so come well-stocked to fix armor and heal wounds.
  14. Garussa Clan: You can create a Travel Post here for 1,500 Krowns. There is also an Apothecary, Market, Tavern, and Town Hall.
  15. Hangman's Tree: Self-contained quest location.
  16. Moritagre's Farm: Self-contained quest location.
  17. Cursed Village of Lethyre: Go to the far-left building to progress the scenario quest (once you have been sent here). For more on Cursed Villages, see below.
  18. Colonel Deteore's Mansion: You'll need a Gold Key to enter the basement (see Fatclaw Cave above). Once downstairs, open the chest for a Treasure Map (I've marked the treasure location on the map above with a yellow X. You'll get a 'dig' prompt when you find the right spot).
  19. Large Tracker Camp: Part of the scenario quest.
  20. Stone Court: Part of the scenario quest.
  21. Old Edorian Mine: Self-contained quest location.
  22. Old Edorian Watchtower: Self-contained quest location. This is a tough bandit camp.
  23. Derelict Farm: Self-contained quest location and part of the scenario quest. You'll need to lockpick the trapdoor to find the Smuggler's Hideout.
  24. Murwen Fishery: once you complete Nairolf Arena (3), talk to Corastos here to learn the Marksman specialization. There are two other quests here, one needing 5 Comfrey to complete and the other a captive Crocswine (several groups are in the area).
  25. Nerprun Clan: You must hand in 20 Wood to advance the scenario quest. There is also a Market and Apothecary.
  26. Nerprun Mine: Self-contained quest location. Once you've cleared out the mine of beasts, you'll have entered the Secondary Tunnel (27). Leave here to find a nice spot for resources.
  27. Secondary Tunnel: This area becomes accessible after you've cleared Nerprun Mine (26).
  28. Secluded Cottage: This will appear marked on your map once you reach a certain point in the scenario quest. Note that once you arrive and talk to the NPC here, you'll have no choice but to escort them. This leads to a Ghost Pack battle, so come well-prepared.
  29. Brotherhood Training Grounds: Skill books, respecs, and Legendary Weapon upgrades.
  30. Tule's Glade: Self-contained quest location. You need to hand over 20 Carcasses to complete the quest.
  31. Cursed Village of Cirse: Investigate the far-left building (the Tavern) to get the self-contained quest. You'll also need a woodcutter. You used to have to find the Lute here but it has since been moved to some more accessible locations. For more on Cursed Villages, see below.
  32. Master Tracker Bionn: This is the boss battle for Ludern, and I found it very difficult with level seven companions (see below for more information). Once you take her down, you'll be rewarded with the Legendary Weapon, Devotion (a One-Handed Axe that builds Fury with each hit).
  33. Secret Camp: A map marker appears roughly where this number is when you get close and is involved in a scenario quest. Once you've visited, the marker is removed from the map, and the camp ceases to be a location.
  34. Rouste Ball field: As with other areas, you can play a game of Rouste Ball here. It's an American Football-style mini-game that plays more like Blood Bowl.
  35. Ludern Sepulchre Door: This will only appear on your map once you have completely researched all three parts of the General's Codex and have all the relevant runes. Once you do, head here for a one-room (non-combat) dungeon where you will find a unique Legendary Belt Accessory, Mehyt's Ivory Horn.

How to defeat Master Tracker Bionn in Wartales

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Master Tracker Bionn is a plague-ridden with a lot of health that also summons a lot of other plague-ridden mobs to help her. The trick is to hit her as few times as possible (as hits summon adds) and stack as many DOTs as possible or take her down very quickly so you don't have to worry about the adds. The fight ends immediately when she dies, so you don't have to worry about the extra-spawned enemies.

How do Cursed Villages work in Wartales?

You'll be asked to assemble a scouting team when you enter Cursed Villages. Once done, you'll explore buildings and build noise as you do so. Trying to open chests and some random factors also build noise. If the noise meter maxes out, you'll be attacked. Note that only the companions in the party will be in the battle and that you need to escape a room by using your main actions to search for an exit. So, either go in mob-handed to easily cope with being discovered or go very light and leave before triggering battles.
