In Wuthering Waves, a Phantom Echo is an Echo with a slight variation of color and/or size—like a Pokémon shiny! If you're looking to get your hands on a few, here's everything you need to know.
How to get a Phantom Echo in Wuthering Waves
Unfortunately, one can't just get a Phantom Echo whenever they see fit. They are random, incredibly rare, and challenging to spot if you're not aware of what the original looks like. Phantom Echoes look like their recolored self in the overworld. And once they're defeated, they will always drop a mirage.
These sparks can also mean a guaranteed Echo drop from the said monster, but in both scenarios, you want to go after the Echo in question anyway. If you kill a Phantom Monster, it will drop as a Phantom Echo for you to collect. Phantom Echoes do not have better stats than normal.
They are exactly the same as any other Echoes, with one slight benefit. Phantom Echoes are considered entirely different monsters, even when compared to the standard version of one. This means you can use a Phantom and standard version of the same Echo and reap the benefits without losing out on a set bonus.
Where to find Phantom Echoes in Wuthering Waves (Map Locations)
There have been rumors that certain locations in Wuthering Waves spawn Phantom Echoes more often, but I've found no such confirmation of this. However, Echo spawns reset daily, so if you can't find one, wait a day before going on the hunt again. You can also visit other your friends' words and hunt for Phantom Echoes there.
That said, here are a few locations you can find some of them in hoards.
Hoartoise
The Phantom (Shiny) version of Hoartoise can generally be found just before you reach the giant bell tortoise boss in Tolling Stream. Look for him on the left-most bank of the river leading to the boss. If he's there, you should spot him from a distance.
Rocksteady Guardian
As a general rule of thumb, Phantom versions of monsters can be found in areas where their normal counterparts spawn. For Rocksteady Guardian, search the northern area of the map: Withering Frontline. Rocksteady Guardians are huge and hulking, so a shiny one should be very easy for you to spot if it is spawned.
There may be more out there that have yet to be discovered, so we'll get you updated on that front. Remember that these rare echoes may not be spawned when searching for them. I recommend checking these locations at least once each day to get your hands on them
Alternatively, you can also purchase a few Phantom Echoes directly from the Points Shop. Currently, you can purchase Phantom: Feilian Beringal from the shop from the Adversity Exchange.
You can also nab Phantom: Thundering Mephis and Phantom: Mourning Aix from the Simulation Training section of the point shop. These specific Phantom Echoes may change as Wuthering Waves updates, so grab it while you can if you're interested in that sort of thing. You'll need to progress the Adversity content (think Spirial Abyss) in order to purchase it.
