It already looks like plenty of former characters are showing up in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Ganondorf and possibly Demise among them. A warrior needs his trusty steed, though, and many fans are wondering whether Epona will be showing up to reunite with Link once more.
Can Epona show up in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
The famous horse from The Legend of Zelda is indeed in Tears of the Kingdom, but Epona is exclusive to Amiibo owners. Players can get Epona into the game by either using the regular Link or Twilight Princess Link Amiibos.
In Breath of the Wild, players needed a Link Amiibo to get Epona in the game. Any players who did so can use that save data to transfer Epona into TotK, making it a good way to get Epona in the game without needing to buy a new Amiibo.
Who is Epona?
Put simply, Epona is the most famous horse in The Legend of Zelda. In other games in the series that feature horses, they usually go nameless. The exception is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, in which Link specifically uses Epona.
Epona was raised in Lon Lon Ranch by Malon and Talon, which is why Epona's Theme is also called the Lon Lon Ranch theme. If players head to the middle of Hyrule Field in Tears of the Kingdom (or Breath of the Wild for that matter), they will find the Ranch Ruins that are supposed to represent where Lon Lon Ranch once stood.
