Star Wars: Hunters received warm reception for player-first approach

Pay-to-win (P2W) has never really been an ideal model for us gamers. It ruins the fun for free-to-play (F2P) gamers, but can also have a negative effect on the P2W players — they'll always have that shadow at the back of their minds, "Would I have won if I didn't splash my cash?" Or maybe that's just something we F2P players say to feel better.

Either way, Star Wars: Hunters has been well-received for not having those pay-to-win elements, at least in the early game. It's helping players feel like they can compete whether they spend their hard-earned money or not. Interestingly, if Reddit is anything to go by, it's encouraging players to spend money on the game on cosmetics.

Other Redditors have heaped praise on the game so far, calling it a positive surprise and player-first. What's more, plenty of the comments on these threads mention the fact that they're more likely to buy in-game items and cosmetics when there are no pay-to-win mechanics present.

This gives us hope for the future. I typically steer clear of pay-to-win games, and I'm sure many of you feel the same. If I'm reading the vibes right, we'll see more true F2P games as time passes. We'll be stuck with the "skip-the-grind" model for a while, but that's alright. Far better than just dumping a load of cash on a game and winning, right?

But surely this refreshing aspect of Hunters isn't the only thing to take into account? How's the gameplay?

This isn't an in-depth review - think of it as a TL: DR. I've been sinking hours in and having loads of fun. The controls feel a bit iffy at first, but once you get the hang of it, you'll enjoy your time here. I've played my fair share of MOBAs, but never in shooter form. I wasn't sure what to expect, but overall the game is well put together and definitely worth checking out. Even if you're not the typical MOBA player.
