Most Minecraft players spend a decent amount of time inside caves and caverns to obtain key materials, but it can be hard to know whether you’ve got a great cave seed or not without spending hours exploring. I’ve taken the risk for you and found the best Minecraft Cave seeds for each version.

Best Minecraft Java Cave Seeds

In addition to plentiful resources, these underground networks hold tons of enemies and unique structures like Ancient Cities. The seeds I found contain the best of both structures and geographically interesting caves in Minecraft.

Dripstone Desert

Seed: 5082464229587767783

The Desert in this seed acts as the ceiling for a giant Dripstone Cave. There are two Desert Villages in this biome, each of which has its own entrance to the cave. The best path to take in this seed is to visit the Wooded Badlands to gather wood and saplings, travel to both Desert Villages for supplies, and finally, head inside the Dripstone Cave. If you want a goal to work toward, try to make your way to the two Ancient Cities at the south end of the cave.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Desert Village: -251, -51
Cave Entrance near the first village: -270, -297
Desert Village 2: -367, -266

Seed: 1906416636132707096

This Lush Cave's main feature is the larger pool of lava near its entrance. It helps light up the cave in combination with the glow berries, although you'll want to be wary of fire spread. There will be an amethyst geode nearby as well as another deeper in the cave.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: -22, 50, -138
Amethyst Geode: -38, -25, -65
Amethyst Geode 2: 76, -22, 15

Mountain Village Dripstone

Seed: -5584892961652404399

The Plains Village on this mountain chose to live near this Dripstone Cave to gather materials for their Blacksmith. The cave is filled with iron, coal, diamonds, and anything else a smith could ever need. It's about a 500-block from Spawn, but the materials and village make the trip worth it. If you're not convinced it's a gem, check out the seed for yourself!

Key Locations and Coordinates
Mountain Village: -233, 247
Dripstone Cave Entrance: -241, 200

Caved-In Villagers

A Plains Village with half of the houses in a giant cave beneath the rest of the village.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -4741669050446944109

When an earthquake hit a Plains Village, several homes and inhabitants fell straight into the cave system beneath them. The cave is safer during the day, but when nighttime arrives villagers hide in their homes from monsters. You could choose to fill in the cave and restore the village to its former glory. However, it would be much more rewarding to turn it into a multi-level mini-city!

Key Locations and Coordinates
Sunken Village: -158, 254
Ruined Portal: -426, 387

Badlands Gold Operation

Seed: -4625493500003730034

This seed is for all of the loot goblins, hardcore miners, and gold gathers of Minecraft. This world begins near a giant chasm in the middle of a Badlands. Several veins of gold ore can be seen from the surface, promising many more if you venture deeper into the caves. Traveling deep into the ravine will reveal a Deep Dark biome and even an Ancient City within a few hundred blocks.

Deep Dark biome: 13, -9, 70
Ancient City: -139, -46, 152

Seed: -3200267490202974001

This cave can be followed from the top down to Deepslate and beyond. For those not prepared to venture the full way down, there is a mineshaft in the middle of the journey that can be looted and used as a rest area. When you're ready to overcome the rest of the cave, continue downwards to find abundant ores, amethyst geodes, and so much more.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: -295, 73, 101
Mineshaft: -256, -35, 74

This world begins in a cozy Taiga Village. Parts of the village have fallen into shallow caves beneath the village, giving it a slightly bumpy appearance. A ravine containing both Lush and Dripstone Cave elements can be found slightly to the side of Spawn. It's the perfect place to start a mine, and it even has an Amethyst geode near the entrance that can be used for an amethyst farm.

Wormhole

A Lush Cave tunnel leading from one side of the mountain to the other.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: 5616975092558848799

This cave burrows through the mountain as if created by a giant landworm. If the small Lush Cave inside is expanded to fill the hole and lights are added, it would make for a perfect mountain passageway! It's a great alternative to passing over the top of the snow-covered mountain, which contains the risk of sinking into the snow. Players who enjoy mountain-dwelling can take inspiration from ant hills and create an intricate, tunnely mountain base.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Wormhole Entrance: -256, 112, 286
Lush Cave: -293, 75, 339
Wormhole Exit: -373, 123, 189

Descend into the Mountain

A circular cavern at the top of a mountain.

Seed: -1241377884327075936

Climbing to the top of this hill rewards you with the entrance to a deep cavern. There is a lava pool nearby, perfect for building a Nether Portal after mining some iron from the cave. Be careful, as once you enter too deep, you may need to fight your way back to the surface. The risk of venturing deeper is worth it, though, given all of the riches you'll find.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: 69, -175
Plains Village: 80, -304

Snowy Ravine with Mineshaft

A ravine in a Snowy Plains with a mineshaft at the entrance.

Seed: -7099029296595017097

The only sanctuary from the cold winds of the Overworld comes in the form of a large ravine. As soon as you enter, you can see the remnants of previous visitors who must have also wanted shelter from the snow. You can immediately enter the mineshaft from the first platform, or you could head farther down to find a section of a mineshaft within deepslate. Be careful! There are many lava falls in the area, and some of them have caught the mineshaft on fire.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Ravine Entrance: 79, 14
Mineshaft: 51, -2
Mineshaft on Fire: 69, -26

Seed: 1384329880929654696

The cavern beneath this Mushroom Island is filled with lava pools and plenty of diamonds. The waterfalls within it are unique because they are a muted purple-grey color since they are in a Mushroom Fields biome. It adds an interesting look to the cave that isn't seen often. Players will find a ruined portal near the external entrance of the cave and a mineshaft near the entrance on the inside.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Mushroom Island: -18, -200
Cave Entrance: -257, 68, -229

A Lush Cave with an open Skeleton Spawner.

Seed: 4337868007922984517

The area around Spawn is an Old Growth Taiga biome with a beautiful lake. Walking to the lake reveals a Lush Cave at the edge. The water from the lake spills into it, giving you an easy way to enter and exit the cavern. Entering the cavern reveals a Skeleton Spawner out in the open right at the beginning! You can use the bones from this spawner to tame the wolves from the Taiga.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: 20, 60, 5
Skeleton Spawner: 7, 8, -32

Village over Lake Cavern

A Plains Village on top of a water-filled cavern.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -5161171804879353020

This Plains Village has made their home on top of a giant watery cavern. To make the most of it, you'll need either a Turtle Helmet or a helmet enchanted with Respiration and Aqua Affinity. Getting one of the two provides unlimited access to all of the cave's resources. As a bonus, you won't have to worry about taking damage from lava while in the cave.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Village over Lake Cavern: -243, 63, -371

Deep Drip

A Dripstone cave dropping to deepslate.

Seed: -3615395503769126445

Whether you like dripstone for its appearance or lava duplication abilities, you'll be able to gather tons of it in this cave. The entrance to the cave is large with multiple areas to explore. Each of these areas will contain plenty of dripstone, plus mobs to fight and ores to mine. After gathering some iron, you can use the water from the natural water elevators to create your own throughout the cave.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cavern Entrance: -64, 67, -50
Amethyst Geode: -109, 22, 6

Branching Paths

A cave with two tunnels, one leading to lava and the other to a Lush Cave.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -1114450996663617047

A few steps away from Spawn is a large ravine with two paths. The path on the left drops down to deepslate quickly and has lots of lava. It's dangerous, but there is a high chance of profit. The right pathway contains a small segment of lush cave, giving you access to moss and glow berries. I recommend stopping there first so you can plant glow berries all over the cave for both food and lighting.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: 1, 14
Lush Cave: -37, 1, 22
Lava Falls: 24, 21, 29

Lakebed Cavern

A Plains Village on a lake with a large cavern underneath it.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -773214912059536815

Seeing this seed reminded me of playing Twilight Princess and exploring Lake Hylia. Parts of the cave are submerged within the lake itself, while the rest can be found beneath it. This includes a mineshaft that was most likely created by the village above the lake or their ancestors! If you walk a few dozen blocks beyond the village, you will find a ruined portal as well.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Lakebed Cavern Entrance: 21, 129
Plains Village: 27, 265
Ruined Portal: 99, 333
Mineshaft: 31, 124

Open-Air Cherry Cave

A large Cherry Grove cavern that is visible to the surface.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: 8034883325565591092

This roofless Cherry Grove cavern is undeniably one of the most beautiful on our list! Some of the pink petals have fallen into the cave below, making it appear like a safe sanctuary rather than a dangerous cavern. An intricate cherry wood base would fit right in here, either within the cave or floating above it like an island in the sky. The presence of an Ancient City nearby makes this seed even more rewarding for survival players.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cherry Cave: 32, 47, 172
Ancient City: 88, -43, 184

Waterfall Cavern

A cavern with pools of water creating waterfalls leading to the floor of the cavern.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -1414031315244419232

This cavern stands apart from others due to the many waterfalls and lava falls it contains. To get down to deepslate, you'll be able to ride a few larger waterfalls down from the surface. Just make sure not to try riding a lava fall unprepared—you won't like where you end up.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cavern Entrance: -370, 160
Amethyst Geode: -379, 36, 101
Ruined Portal: -446, -294

Lush Pillars

A large Lush Cave with water ponds made of clay and thick deepslate pillars.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: 7048803272755144882

This Lush Cave's stability depends upon the stone and deepslate pillars scattered throughout it. It's filled with water pools delicately outlined in clay, each with its own Dripleafs and clay supports. It serves as the perfect home for both you and the adorable Axolotl mob.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Lush Cave Entrance: 114, -25
Lush Cave Start: 132, 9, -33
Jungle Temple: 184, -136

Humble Illusion

A small entrance to a cave hidden between cherry trees.
Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

Seed: -8130473306746987018

Spawn is set at the edge of a Cherry Grove. Only a few blocks away is a small gap in the hill, looking as if it was a tiny burrow dug into the hill. However, that is only an illusion—this tiny gap is really hiding a ginormous Dripstone Cavern containing multiple layers and plenty of water pools. There are hours worth of adventure hidden within this cave, especially since it descends quickly down into deepslate.

Key Locations and Coordinates
Cave Entrance: -21, 10
Plains Village: 152, 168
