Armadillo Scutes are high in demand for Minecraft players since they're used to craft the newly added Wolf Armor. I'll show you how Scutes can be gathered from Armadillos in Minecraft.
How to Get Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft?
Luckily for all Armadillo fans, we don't have to hurt Armadillos to get their Scutes. Instead, there are two Armadillo-friendly ways to gather the Scutes. The first is by picking them up after they're naturally shed while the second involves using a brush.
An Armadillo shedding Scutes
Armadillos shed a single Scute every few minutes as they wander around.
Gathering them like this is a slow process that doesn't require any extra resources. If your simulation distance is high enough, you can leave the Armadillos to shed while completing other tasks like farming and building. Afterward, walk to their home and pick up all the dropped Scutes.

Brushing an Armadillo for Scutes
Brushing Armadillos for their Scutes is much faster than waiting for them to shed. To brush an Armadillo, hold the brush and press the interact button while facing the Armadillo. This can be done repeatedly on the same Armadillo until the brush breaks. The process can be automated using a Dispenser if you don't want to brush Armadillos repeatedly.
The downside to the brush method is that a brush can only be used on an Armadillo four times before it breaks.
Even a brush enchanted with Unbreaking III can only get between 14 and 18 Scutes from an Armadillo before it breaks.
I find this method to be worth it if you've already got the supplies to make several brushes. If you don't, waiting is going to be your best option.
How to make a brush in Minecraft
If you're not a fan of the ruin structures added to Minecraft, you may not know how to make a brush. All it requires is a copper ingot, a feather, and a stick. Place the stick in the center of the bottom row, the copper ingot in the middle of the center row, and the feather in the center of the top row.
Craft a single brush and enchant it with Mending and Unbreaking III to save resources. You'll be able to use that brush forever on the Armadillos so long as you repair it with XP.
