Where do Armadillos spawn in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, there are two kinds of biomes that Armadillos will spawn naturally in. The first of these is the trio of Badlands biomes. This includes the regular Badlands biomes and the Eroded and Wooded Badlands.

The second type of biome they will spawn in is the Savanna. They will spawn in regular Savannas, Savanna Plateaus, and Windswept Savannas. I had the most luck in a Savanna Plateau, where I found a small family of four Armadillos.

Armadillo behaviors in Minecraft

When approaching Armadillos, make sure not to run or ride anything near them, including horses. This will cause them to roll up to avoid you. If you do startle them, they will unroll themselves in about four seconds if you stop running or riding.

Instead, I've found that the easiest way to befriend them is to approach them slowly. Afterward, spider eyes can be used to lure them back to your base.

What are Armadillos useful for?

Aside from just looking very, very cute, Armadillos will drop Scutes. These will be dropped from the creatures either naturally every few minutes or so as they walk around, or you can use a brush to remove them a little bit quicker. Scutes can be used to make Wolf Armor which not only protects your favorite four-legged friends but can also be dyed to give your wolf pack a fashionable flair.
